Massimo Bartolini (b. 1962, Cecina, Italy) is internationally renowned for his immersive, experiential art. His work is often talked about in terms of metamorphosis and experimentation – he makes art which changes space and our experience of it and which acknowledges, in its finished form, the processes by which it was made.
Print III ('Starburst/Firework') is one of three etchings produced in Edinburgh on the occasion of Bartolini's exhibition Studio Matters +1, at Fruitmarket in 2013. These prints directly relate to paper aeroplane works from the artist's studio. Bartolini has spoken of his aeroplane drawings as being like a ‘technical drawing in reverse’. A paper aeroplane is first made, then unfolded and each of the lines, whether purposeful or a result of the process of making it, is drawn over or underlined to create a blueprint-like drawing of itself.
Available separately or as a suite of all 3 works: unframed £700, framed £950.
