Safety Pin with Penny made by Morven Mulgrew
Morven Mulgrew describes herself as an Anti-Disciplinary Artist/Scientist/Problem Solver/ Problem Creator/Engineer/ Designer/ Maximal/Direct/Failing/Trying. She has worked with ceramics and mixed media and has created artworks as well as design and has exhibited and created commissioned work in the UK.
In response to Mike Nelson's exhibition she has created a jewellery collection with hallmarked bronze pre 1967 pennies and Sterling Silver 925 pre 1920 shillings. She has created a 'souvenir' that is made from an object (a coin) that has a long history in marking experience, sentiment, and memory that dates back to ancient times. In this way she has encapsulated the experience of seeing a Nelson exhibition and offered it up in a material that speaks to Nelson's practice of reusing materials that are rich in story.
