How can galleries build meaningful and sustainable relationships with primary schools?
How can we use contemporary art to empower young people and bring joy?
Why is creative learning important?
Creative Connections was a three-year project that set out address these questions by working in close partnership with the same six primary schools over three years. With input from pupils, teachers, project artists, external stakeholders and the Fruitmarket Creative Learning team, this book highlights what we have all learned from each other over the course of the project. It offers practical advice for developing dynamic creative workshops, planning large-scale engagement programmes, navigating challenges, implementing accessible and inclusive methods and conducting successful programme evaluation. Creative Connections demonstrated the importance of nurturing the creativity of not only young people, but teaching staff and artists and the powerful impact that this can have on an individual’s self-esteem, wellbeing and sense of community.
